The Moonlight Silhouette series grew out of photographer Rich Tarbell’s search for an original idea for a new photo project. Primarily known for his concert photography and portraits of musicians, he eventually arrived at the idea of combing the forms and shapes artistry of aerialists with the old-school technique of silhouettes. The first series of images was staged and shot several years ago and was so popular that he was always being asked when the next round of images would be available.
Gina Sobel’s latest project is Choose Your Own Adventure, a collection of musicians who come together to play improvised and unrehearsed shows in and around Charlottesville. Instead of having set playlists for each performance, the band creates the song on stage as they play together.
Annabeth McNamara is a singer/songstress from Harrisonburg, VA, with experience traveling and performing across the U.S. and Europe. We talked about the process of songwriting, and focused on one song in particular, Lavender, that she had finished recently.
Joy is a professional belly dancer, belly dance instructor, performer, and choreographer. She performs solo and as a member of the troupe she founded, Fire in the Belly, she hosts bellydance event and invites regional and national bellydancers to the area, and she teaches regular classes in both Charlottesville and Harrisonburg.
I caught up with her as she was preparing for a weekend of belly dance workshops, a group performance, and choreographing and rehearsing for her own solo performance. I documented her rehearsing and during the weekend performance.
